Question 1. Why did the dog feel the need for a master? (1, 2) 

Ans: The dog was tired of wandering alone in search of food and to protect himself from animals stronger than him. So, as to provide food and protect himself from dangers, the dog decides to become  a servant of some animal stronger than him.

Question 2. Who did he first choose as his master? Why did he leave that master? (3) 

Ans: The dog first chose the wolf as his master, an animal of his species.

The wolf got frightened of  a bear and hid itself in  bushes and later into the forest. The wolf gave the reason that the bear would eat both of them. The dog found the  bear to be more powerful than the wolf. Therefore, he left the wolf to make the bear as his new master.To ensure safety and a stable food source, the dog decided to serve a more powerful master

Question 3. Who did he choose next? (5) 

Ans: The dog found the wolf to be less strong than the bear. The wolf hid itself in the bush and later in the deep forest to avoid the bear. Therefore, the dog decides to take service with the animal who is powerful, to ensure protection and food security.

Question 4. Why did he serve the Lion for a long time? (8) 

Ans: The dog served the lion for a long time because it was considered to be the most powerful animal of the jungle. He enjoyed a good life under lion’s protection and the dog lived a safe and comfortable life, as no other wild animal dared to offend him.

Question 5. Who did he finally choose as his master and why? (9, 10) 

Ans:  The dog chose the man as his master in the end.

The human had been chosen by the dog since the lion told him that it feared humans. It was because the lion told him that human being is stronger than anyone on the Earth. Realizing that humans dominated all animals, the dog decided to serve humanity, making dogs man’s most loyal companions to this day.

First, he found a wolf, but the wolf was afraid of the bear. The dog thought that the bear was the strongest of all.

After some time, the dog met a lion, who seemed the strongest. He stayed with the lion for a long time. One day, he realized that the lion was afraid of man.

To this day, the dog remains man’s best friend.
